Frequently Asked Questions
E-mail Usage Questions
Why do I want a Schoolcraft e-mail address?
Schoolcraft College is switching much of their communications from paper to electronic, primarily e-mail. Providing an e-mail address to our students means Schoolcraft can send students information without risk of it being lost due to a student change of e-mail providers. It also means e-mail sent by a student to Schoolcraft from their Schoolcraft Student E-mail account will not be trapped as spam. You may use your e-mail address for communicating with instructors, fellow students, or anyone else you would like to have contact with.
How will Schoolcraft use my student e-mail address?
The College will only use it for official business related to you being a student at Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft will not share your e-mail with third parties or non-college employees.
Can I use the other features of Google Apps?
Yes! All of the features and tools included in your Google Apps account will be available for you to use.
How do I get an e-mail address and how do I know what it is?
Schoolcraft College will assign an e-mail address to all credit students upon admission to the College. You can find out what your e-mail address is by logging in to WebAdvisor.
How long do I get to keep my Schoolcraft student e-mail address?
The student e-mail does not have an expiration date at this time. This could change based on Google's policies though. Schoolcraft would like to continue to communicate with our students to keep you informed of any offerings that might interest you at the College.
WebAdvisor and Blackboard Questions
Do I have to change my e-mail account in my Blackboard or WebAdvisor profiles now that I have a Schoolcraft e-mail account
Yes, to make your new Schoolcraft email account your preferred email, log into WebAdvisor and click on Update Your Information and follow the steps on the screen. For Blackboard and any other services that use e-mail, we strongly advise you to use your Schoolcraft e-mail address for these as well.
I already registered my non-Schoolcraft e-mail address with WebAdvisor; what will become of that?
In the not too distant future, any existing student e-mail addresses will be replaced with the new Schoolcraft e-mail address. We'll post notices once that time is determined.
Instructor and Course Questions
Will my teacher use e-mail for all communications?
Your instructor will let you know how he/she intends to communicate with you and your classmates.
How will my teachers know what my student e-mail address is?
Schoolcraft student e-mail addresses will be automatically listed on their class rosters.
Is there a student e-mail directory so I can look up my friends' e-mail addresses?
No. To protect your privacy, Schoolcraft will not make your e-mail address available to other students.
I already have an e-mail account that I like; can I forward my Schoolcraft student e-mail to my other e-mail account?
Yes! Once you've logged into your student e-mail account, you can set your preferences, including forwarding. See the E-mail User Guide for instructions.
I think my account has been compromised; what should I do?
You'll need to change your password and your security questions. The first step is to make sure your new password is secure. Then choose good security questions and answers and update your profile.
