Student Employment

Are you interested in working on campus to earn money, meet people and develop new job skills? Career Services will help current Schoolcraft College students coordinate on-campus employment. All student job vacancies are posted in the College Central Network jobs database online.

The Career Services Office is located in the McDowell Center, Room 205. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


General Guidelines

Students are eligible to work a maximum of 25 hours per week on campus. International students and Work Study students are eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week on campus. Audits are not allowed. All student employees must be enrolled in classes for credit and receive a grade in those classes.

Students are not allowed to work in more than one department on campus at a time. Once placed in a department on campus, students may not change to a different department on campus due to the amount of training and time invested by department supervisors.

Student employment is an opportunity to learn essential work skills such as teamwork, effective communication, organization and critical thinking while attending classes at Schoolcraft. It is a convenient option that allows students to work while upholding their commitment to academic success.


Are you eligible for on-campus employment?

Students must be registered and attending class a minimum of six (6) credit hours during the fall and winter semesters, a minimum of three (3) credit hours during the spring session and summer session. Students must have and maintain 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Students are not eligible for on-campus student employment if any of these apply:

  • Not eligible to work in the United States.
  • Do not have a United States Social Security number assigned by the Social Security Administration.
  • Do not meet the enrollment and GPA requirements.

Types of jobs 

Many types of skilled and unskilled jobs are available on campus. Positions are available as a clerical assistant, receptionist, tutor, computer lab assistant, newspaper staff member, food service worker, facilities and ground worker, library or bookstore assistant.


Applying for on-campus employment

Review the job listings carefully, including the job description, required qualifications, and the available days and times. Interested students will be directed on the job posting to contact the Coordinator for Student Employment Services to receive an application to apply for any on-campus jobs.


Interviewing with the Hiring Department

Be prepared to discuss any previous work or volunteer experiences. Dress appropriately and be on time for the interview. Remember to bring your class schedule to the interview. Be sure to thank the interviewer for their time and consideration.


After your interview

Once a student is hired they will return to the Career Services Office to complete necessary hiring authorization paperwork, W-4 tax forms, and show two documents to verify eligibility to work in the United States. All students employees will receive a Student Employment Handbook with the guidelines and policies for Schoolcraft College student employees.


Career Events

The Career Services Office hosts a variety of events on campus that connect students with employers. Job fairs, career expos, and individual employer recruiting events are held throughout the school year. Job postings from area employers are listed in the Schoolcraft College Central Network jobs database.
