The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the stages of creativity development in children. Open-ended process art and creative activities will be emphasized that are appropriate for young children and persons with developmental challenges. Lab experiences are incorporated into this course.
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Relate creativity and aesthetics in young children to basic goals for the early childhood art program.
- Construct open-ended process creative activities for young children and adults with developmental disabilities.
- Plan a creative classroom environment including selecting the basic materials, equipment and strategies to encourage creativity.
- Investigate art and social/emotional development of children including adults with developmental challenges.
- Investigate art and physical/cognitive development of children including adults with developmental challenges.
- Determine developmental levels of art.
- Explain the process of two dimensional art and the tools and materials needed to encourage exploration at each developmental level.
- Explain the process of three dimensional art and the tools and materials needed to encourage exploration at each developmental level.
- Analyze the importance of creativity for children and adults.
