Business and Professional Skills 2
The second of three courses on the non-technical skills necessary for success in the workplace addresses the ethics of touch, ethical dilemmas and professional relationships. Through discussions and activities students will learn therapeutic relationship dynamics and how to work with awareness, empathy and compassion. Emphasis will be placed upon the ability of students to manage client relationships in a professional manner.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Recognize defense mechanisms in conflict situations.
- Explore the relationship between the physiological and emotional effects of touch and massage.
- Demonstrate active listening skills.
- Resolve common ethical dilemmas.
- Formulate methods of developing therapeutic relationships while maintaining boundaries.
- Construct a quality customer service guide.
- Identify the impact of therapist self-disclosure on the therapeutic relationship.
- Characterize the boundaries between massage therapy and talk therapy.
- Differentiate between empathy, sympathy and compassion.
- Demonstrate methods of attunement to maintain a therapeutic relationship.
