Course Description

Research indicates that adults with Down Syndrome are at increased risk for developing Alzheimer's disease during their life time than the general population. Learn more about the prevalence and presentation of Alzheimer's disease in those affected by Down Syndrome, diagnostic and intervention resources available, and compassionate strategies for addressing behavioral and cognitive changes. Recommendation: take CES 4303 Fundamentals of Dementia Care first. This class is an elective to complete the certificate. This class is approved for 2 continuing education contacts hours for nurses by Schoolcraft College, 2 continuing education contact hours for social workers by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative and 0.2 CEUs for other professionals.
