This course introduces the student to the key business and technology elements of electronic commerce. Both the theory and practice of conducting business over the Internet and World Wide Web are presented. The major topics include planning and building a Web presence, marketing on the Web, business-to-business strategies, online auctions, legal/ethical/tax issues, Web server hardware/software, security, payment systems and technology infrastructure.
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
- BUS 101 or equivalent.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Describe the role of electronic commerce in relation to business activities.
- Relate the nature of the Internet and its technological infrastructure.
- Characterize the revenue models for selling goods and services on the Web.
- Evaluate the internet marketing environments and identify the related value chain.
- Explore electronic-based strategies for business-to-business commerce.
- Identify the influence of ethics and the legal system on electronic commerce.
- Prescribe the appropriate hardware and software technology in the design of an electronic commerce system.
- Describe the elements of an effective security system for conducting electronic commerce.
- Develop plans for implementing electronic commerce in the national and international marketplace.
