Course Description
This course introduces students to the key concepts of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). The world's largest network, the Internet, is also one of the world's most powerful communication tools. Students learn the underlying applications, components and protocols of TCP/IP and its necessary link to the Internet and how to identify TCP/IP layers, components and functions. Navigation tools, TCP/IP services and troubleshooting methodologies are also reviewed.
Prerequisites
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
- CIS 171 or equivalent experience.
Course Competencies
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Examine IP addressing and related protocols.
- Examine the protocols used to transport data over the Internet.
- Examine Basic TCP/IP services.
- Examine the Domain Name System Protocol.
- Examine the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
- Examine methods of securing TCP/IP Environments.
- Examine routing in the IP Environment.
- Identify principles of monitoring and managing IP Networks.
- Identify the key features of Internet Protocol Version 6.
