In the spirit of this year’s Earth Day Celebration theme, Think Globally, Eat Locally, the Schoolcraft College biology department is sponsoring two presentations of the acclaimed documentary, Ingredients, which unearth the roots of the local-grown food movement and digs into the stories of the chefs, farmers and activists transforming what many view is a broken food system.

Earth Day Celebration with Think Globally, Eat Locally Theme
     Mon., Mar. 31, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center, main campus
Schoolcraft College students and staff will be commemorating Earth Day early (Earth Day is Apr. 22) this year. This year’s theme, Think Globally, Eat Locally, promotes the idea of how growing your own food or eating locally grown food can lead to sustainable use of our planet’s resources. Attendees will be able to interact with a variety of organizations, whose goals are to promote awareness of environmental issues.
Attendees will also learn of the importance of how growing their food or eating locally grown food benefits their health and the environment. In addition, Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts faculty member and Certified Master Chef Jeffrey Gabriel will host a food preparation demonstration and the two winners of the student poster competition will be presented with $250 scholarships each. The Earth Day Celebration event is free and open to the public.
