Schoolcraft College music ensembles present free concerts in April

Schoolcraft College Choral Union, Sunday, April 22

The Schoolcraft College Choral Union, directed by Dr. Jonathan Drake, will performing a choral concert entitled "For All the World was Mine" on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Redford Township (northeast corner of Six Mile and Beech-Daly Roads). The concert will feature the works of Mozart, Schubert, Adams, Leavitt and Craig Hella Johnson. The Choral Union Concert is free and open to the public. Donations help to fund future concerts and other programs of the college's Music Department.

Schoolcraft College Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Improvisation Combo, Monday, April 23

The Schoolcraft College Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Improvisation Combo will perform the "Up Jumped Spring Concert" on Monday, April 23, 2012. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. The concert will feature the music of Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, Sammy Nestico, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Roy Hargrove, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wayne Shorter. The "Up Jumped Spring Concert" is free and open to the public.
Donations will be gratefully accepted at the door and will be used to fund student scholarships and the Jazz Program.

Schoolcraft College Synthesizer Ensembles, Monday, April 30

The Schoolcraft College Synthesizer Ensembles, directed by Barton Polot, will perform on Monday, April 30, 2012. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. In their spring concert, “Plugging In,” they will be performing electrified versions of classical literature, tricked-out arrangements of popular music, original student compositions, and more. The concerts are always filled with multi-media surprises.  Guests should prepare to enjoy an unique  electronic didgeridoo experience. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations help to fund future concerts and other programs of the college's Music Department.

Schoolcraft College’s Synthesizer Ensembles have earned a reputation for innovative use of technology in the service of making serious music. Performances in the past have featured music made with MIDI trumpets, Theremins, and electric t-shirts.  This year the groups have been widely noted for their use of Apple iPads as musical instruments.
