Fourth annual Electric Vehicle Show June 9 to feature rides, racing, workshops, demonstrations and displays

Schoolcraft College is hosting the Fourth Annual Electric Vehicle Show on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
The Show and Rally is free and open to the public. This event is a great opportunity for the public to see this new breed of cars up-close, talk to the owners, and go for a short ride in an EV with the owner driving.
The vehicles on display include Ford Motor Company’s Fusion, C-Max and Escape; Chevrolet Volt; Nissan’s Leaf; a Tesla Roadster; Fisker Karma Eco Sport and Eco Chic; Toyota Prius and Wayne State University’s EcoCAR 2 Team. Other vehicles on display will include Honda Civic Conversion, Chevy S10 PickUP Conversion, Escort Hybrid Conversion, Austin Healy Sprite and a wide variety of other gas-powered cars converted to electric, and those produced with EV kits.
“This is the largest event of its kind in the Midwest,” said MEAA President Larry Tuttle. “Besides learning all about the latest EV technology and talking to people who drive the new production EVs every day, visitors can watch them compete in an exciting Solo Autocross Race.” The race will be held at noon.
Event co-sponsors are Schoolcraft College and the Michigan Electric Auto Association (MEAA) in partnership with Clean Energy Coalition and DTE Energy and Greening Detroit. Event organizers see the show as an important and fun way to raise awareness of the general public about electric vehicles.
General Motors spokesman, Randal Fox, says, “We have been proud supporters of the Michigan Electrical Vehicle Show at Schoolcraft College since 2010.  We are excited about showcasing the Chevy Volt at this educational event.”
