Auditions for Moliere's "The Doctor in Spite of Himself" are September 11-12

The Schoolcraft College Theatre Department’s fall production is The Doctor in Spite of Himself. Auditions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, September 11 and 12, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Theatre on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. No previous theatre experience is required and the auditions are open to all students, faculty, staff, and the general public. The performances of The Doctor in Spite of Himself will be on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 26-27, and November 2-3 and 9-10.

Moliere, the master of hilarious farces, tells the story of Sganerelle, the quick-witted woodcutter. After a quarrel with his wife, Sganerelle, goes off to chop wood. To spite him, his wife convinces two passing servants that he is a brilliant but eccentric doctor pretending to be a woodcutter. After vigorous persuasion, Sganerelle decides to help the servants who are searching for someone to cure their master’s daughter of a mysterious malady. Sganerelle’s escapades in the house of his new patron provide much laughter for the audience and, eventually, a necessary cure for the ailing girl.
