Oboist Nancy Ambrose King performs a free concert October 3
On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, renowned oboist Nancy Ambrose King will perform a free concert at noon in the VisTaTech Center on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
Ambrose King is the first-prize winner of the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists, held in 1995. She has appeared as soloist with major orchestras, and has performed as a recitalist at venues throughout the world, including the American Academy of Music in Rome and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Stockholm. Currently, Ambrose King is serving as an associate professor of oboe at the University of Michigan and is president of the International Double Reed Society.
Ambrose King's concert is the first in the 2012-13 Noon Music Concert Series at Schoolcraft College. Upcoming performances include pianist Douglas Humpherys on November 7, the Motor City Brass Quintet on December 5, soprano Linda Meehan on January 23, Tumbao Bravo on February 6, the Gary Schunk Trio on February 20, Schoolcraft Music Faculty on March 20, The Michele Ramo Group on April 10, and violinist Kirk Toth on April 24.
All of these concerts are held on Wednesdays in the VisTaTech Center and last approximately one hour. They are free and open to the public. Donations at the door are used to help fund future music scholarships for Schoolcraft College students.
