Jazz combo, Tumbao Bravo, to perform free concert Feb. 6

As part of Schoolcraft College's 2012-13 Noon Concert Series, jazz combo Tumbao Bravo will perform on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in the Presentation Room of the VisTaTech Center located on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
Tumbao Bravo was formed in August 2003 by reedman Paul VornHagen and conguero Alberto Nacif.  This exciting Cuban jazz combo has released four critically acclaimed CDs of mostly original compositions that have been featured on all the major jazz public radio stations throughout the U.S.  Winner of the 2005 and 2007 Detroit Music Awards for Best Jazz Recording and Best World Music Band, this combo has performed at all the major Michigan jazz/music festivals including Detroit, Michigan, Lansing, Birmingham, Raisin River, Great Lakes Folk, Blissfest, Wheatland Dance and Ann Arbor to name a few.  Members of the band teach at University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, Jazz Camps and various music studios and all have  either won or been nominated for individual Detroit Music Awards.
According to Chip Boaz, Latin Jazz Corner, "Each band member brings a high level of comfort and experience with Afro Cuban music…a colorful and exciting repertoire… The rhythm section works as a well-oiled machine, churning out grooves that are simultaneously supportive, fiery and strongly rooted in tradition.”
Remaining performances on the 2012-12 Noon Concert Series schedule include Gary Schunk Trio, February 20; Schoolcraft Music Faculty, March 20; The Michele Ramo Group, April 10; and violinist Kirk Toth, April 24.
All of the concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted at the door and are used to fund scholarship for music students.
