8th graders invited to explore college options Feb. 5
Eighth graders and their parents can get an early start on preparing for college by attending Middle School College Night at Schoolcraft College. The event is Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the DiPonio Room of the VisTaTech Center of the college’s Livonia campus on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
“The goal of Middle School College Night is not to choose a college right now, but for students and parents to get a good idea of what it is they need to do in the next four years to get ready for that very big decision and make the most of the opportunities for success,” said Stacey Stover, supervisor of recruitment and student activities.
All eighth graders and their parents, or a responsible adult, are invited to visit the exhibits of participating colleges and universities at their own pace and get answers to their questions. The colleges and universities will have information on career trends, tuition, financial aid and scholarships, saving and investment ideas, high school course selection and high school athletics, tips on choosing a college and getting ready for college. “How to Pay for College” presentations will be held at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Participating schools include: Schoolcraft College, a two-year institution; Cleary University, Lawrence Technological University and Madonna University, private institutions; and Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Saginaw Valley State, the University of Michigan, Wayne State and Western Michigan, all four-year public universities.
The event is free. For more information, contact the Schoolcraft Admissions Office at 734-462-4426 or admissions@schoolcraft.edu.
