A command performance of "Marat/Sade"

After 14 years and numerous requests for a return engagement, the Schoolcraft College Theatre Program will once again perform Peter Weiss’ unforgettable drama Marat/Sade for six performances in the coming weeks.
“Total theatre” is the expression critics have used to describe this unique theatrical event. Based in part on history, the Marquis de Sade, while an inmate of the Asylum of Charenton, staged plays that were performed by fellow inmates. With this point of departure, however, Weiss has created one of the most powerful and exciting plays of the century as the inmates of the Asylum perform “plays within a play.”
The first four performances are presented in Dinner Theatre format. Patrons will enjoy a delicious gourmet meal beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center and the 8 p.m. performance will be held in the Liberal Arts Theatre, both located on the college's Livonia campus on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. Tickets are $24 for dinner and the play on Fridays and Saturdays, March 21-22 and 28-29. The dinner menu features a caesar calad; cannelloni stuffed with chicken, spinach, roasted mushrooms and ricotta cheese; Italian green beans; fresh-baked bread sticks with garlic butter; and tiramisu for dessert.
The final weekend of performances, April 4-5, will feature the play only, beginning at 8 p.m., in the Liberal Arts Theatre. Tickets for the performance only are $12.

Tickets are available in the Schoolcraft College Bookstore or by calling 734-462-4596.  (A note of caution, due to the content and nature of this play, it is not recommended for children.)
