Think Pink & support the fight against breast cancer on Feb. 18

On Wednesday, February 18 the men's and women's basketball teams will host a special benefit in support of the fight against breast cancer. The Ocelots will face off against Oakland Community College at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men. Proceeds from the Pink Zone event will benefit the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Admission ($3 for students and $5 for adults) for the game will be donated to the fund along with sales of Pink Zone t-shirts.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was established in honor of Yow, North Carolina State's head women's basketball coach, one of the sports most successful and renowned coaches. Unfortunately, Coach Yow lost her long battle with breast cancer just a few short weeks ago, but not before she had celebrated great achievements in the sport. She was the Olympic Gold Medal head coach in 1988, a NCAA Elite Eight and Final Four coach in 1998, and a Women's Bascketball Hall of Fame and Naismith Hall of Fame inductee. In addition she was the winner of the inaugural Jimmy V ESPY award for Perseverance in 2007. Although diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, she continued to persevere throughout her career and serves as a great inspiration to many who are diagnosed with the disease.
