Events commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Jan. 18

Bridging Barriers:  Unity in Diversity, a new group sponsored by the Schoolcraft College International Institute, will host a special Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative day of events Monday, January 18th from 9:00am-3:00pm in Room 200 of the McDowell Center on the main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
The day's events will include:

9:00am – 3:00 pm: Art exhibit featuring the works of Professor Anthony Bacon (Professor Bacon's spectacular pieces were featured in the 2009 Multicultural Calendar for CoLours, The Multicultural Network)

 10:00am:  Screenin of the documentary film, "Mighty Times:  The Children's March" and visit from the Children's Center - courtesy of Professor Elizabeth Grace - Children's Center

11:00am:  Student slideshows on historical and current social problems and the various speeches/protests led by MLK ("Letters from Birmingham," "Beyond Vietnam," "Walk to Freedom/I Have a Dream," "Poor People's Campaign," etc.) - courtesy of Professor Karen Schaumann's class – Sociology

12:00pm:  Keynote address by Dr. Ron Woods, Department of African American Studies, Eastern Michigan University
 
1:00pm:  Student discussion panel facilitated by Dr. Lisa Jackson - Psychology
 
 2:00pm:  Student Poetry Slam featuring readings by Schoolcraft College students
