Schoolcraft College to host "U Drive Success" on April 28
Eight local colleges and universities are working together to plan a free event designed to help adult learners who are looking to boost their careers or change their career path.
“U Drive Success” will take place at Schoolcraft College’s VisTaTech Center from 3:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. This event provides attendees with free workshops designed to help them learn more about starting their own business, enhance resumes and interviewing skills, the importance of networking, and other strategies for job hunting.
At 6 p.m., television news anchor Rhonda Walker, from WDIV-TV (Channel 4), will offer inspirational words in a keynote presentation designed to motivate people facing career challenges.
This program is a unique cooperative venture coordinated by the Livonia Chamber of Commerce and its partners that include Schoolcraft College, Madonna University, Davenport University, Walsh College, University of Phoenix, Northwood University, Eastern Michigan University and ITT Technical Institute. Each school will bring experts to lead the free workshops. Furthermore, Ford Motor Company will provide human resources professionals and Michigan Works! will provide information that connects those looking to go to school to grant money and other resources.
“Individuals who are looking to build and rebuild their careers need information and positive reinforcement,” said Dr. Conway Jeffress, president of Schoolcraft College. “This event offers both and we’re proud to be part of the team that made it happen.”
Those attending will have the chance to participate in as many as three 45-minute workshops, scheduled around the 6 p.m. keynote presentation. There will be opportunities for networking and refreshments will be served.
High school and college students interested in exploring higher education opportunities and improving their skills in search for employment are also invited to attend this event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for job hunters from across metro Detroit to gain some valuable advice and learn ways to better market themselves,” said Dan West, president of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce. “For those who need to take classes to reach their goals, they can learn about the fine educational opportunities conveniently located in Livonia and along the I-275 corridor – an area recognized as a hub for higher education.”
The doors open for this free program at 3:30 p.m. Workshops will take place at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. For more information, contact the Livonia Chamber of Commerce at 734.427.2122.
