Think Pink and support breast cancer research on February 9

On Wednesday, February 9, 2011, Schoolcraft College is once again sponsoring the Pink Zone to benefit the Kay Yow WBCA (Women Coaches Basketball Association) Breast Cancer Research Fund. The highlight of the evening’s activities is a basketball doubleheader against area rival, Oakland Community College.
Tickets are only $5.00 for adults and a $10.00 admission includes a t-shirt.  These specially designed commemorative t-shirts will be available for $10.00 each for any additional shirts. They can be ordered in advance by calling 734-462-4400 ext. 5656, or can be purchased at the game.
Admission gets you in to see both the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to see the NJCAA’s #8 ranked women’s team, the Schoolcraft Ocelots, currently 15-3 (5-0 in conference play) and have their sights set on returning to the national championship tournament.
Besides great basketball competition, the evening’s activities will include a performance by the college’s Dance Team, drawings and raffles for prizes, and other giveaways. Last year the college raised $1,815 at the second annual Pink Zone event to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The fund was established in honor of Yow who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She died in 2009 from the disease, but in the more than two decades between, she was coach of the gold medal winning team in the 1988 Olympics, led her team to the 1998 Final Four, was inducted in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000, and is considered one of women’s’ basketball’s greatest coaches of all time.
The Pink Zone events will be held in Physical Education Building on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. Schoolcraft College is a public two-year college, offering classes at the Livonia campus, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads, at the Radcliff Center in Garden City and online at schoolcraft.edu.
