Pianist Panayis Lyras performs April 1 at 8 p.m.

As part of the Schoolcraft College Friday Evening Concert Series Panyais Lyras will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011. Admission for the performance is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at www.scboxoffice.com.

Winner of the Silver Medal in the 1981 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Panayis Lyras has been seen and heard by millions of television viewers on PBS and the Arts and Entertainment Cable Network. He is also First Prize winner of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Utah, the University of Maryland International Piano Competition and the Three Rivers Piano Competition in Pittsburgh, and Silver Medalist in the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Israel.

Panayis Lyras has collaborated with many acclaimed chamber music ensembles and has appeared at the Saratoga, Interlochen, Scotia, Breckenridge, Peninsula, Colorado and Mount Gretna Summer Festivals. In August 2004, he was appointed Artist-in-Residence and Professor of Piano at Michigan State University.

The evening's program will include works by Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin including Romanze in F-sharp major, Op. 28, No. 2; Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22Works by Mazurka in F-sharp minor, Op. 6, No. 1; 
Mazurka in B-flat major, Op. 7, No. 1; Grande Valse Brilliante in E-flat major, Op. 18; Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23; Nocturne in D-flat major, Op. 27, No. 2;
and Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53 “Heroic.”
