JANE JOHNSTON: THE “OTHER” SCHOOLCRAFT

As part of the college's year-long celebration of its 50th Anniversary, guests can learn more about the life and influences of Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, wife of the college's namesake, Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, during a special presentation on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Radcliff Center in Garden City at 11:30 a.m.

Professors Karen Schaumann-Beltrán, sociology, and Mark Harris, English, will offer an insightful look at Jane Johnston Schoolcraft. Jane is the first known Native American literary writer and poet. She is also credited for being the first Native American to write out traditional Native American Indian stories. A short question and answer session will follow the presentation.

This presentation is free and open to the public as a part of the Schoolcraft College's International Institute (SCII) and the Focus: North America series for 2011. The series is made possible through a grant from the Schoolcraft College Foundation. For more information on this event or other SCII activities visit www.schoolcraft.edu/scii.
