Terri Lamb, Faculty Facilitator and Difference Maker
“If anyone makes a difference at Schoolcraft College its Terri Lamb,” said Steven Kleiman in his nomination of Terri Lamb, Faculty Facilitator. “Terri saw something special in me that I have never seen in myself before. She helped me to become a better student. And it’s not just me. She has the ability to make everyone around her feel better about themselves and build their confidence to do great things.”
“She brings joy to the campus when she dresses up like a superhero (Math Mom) and sings math songs. She is constantly getting people excited about math a subject that most students find to be very difficult,” Steven continues. Before meeting Terri, Steven had been considering dropping out of Schoolcraft College, but Terri helped turn him around and gain in self-confidence. Steven has gone on become an officer for Phi Theta Kappa, the college’s honor society, and he recently was honored with Schoolcraft College Student Employee of the Year for his work as lead math tutor in the Learning Assistance Center.
Sheila Raney echoes much of Steven’s comments in her nomination of Terri. “Before I enrolled here at Schoolcraft, I was very hesitant. I was worried that I would not be able to do well. I suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm in 1998 and because of this, I sometimes have difficulty remembering and comprehending things,” Sheila shared. “I met Terri during a Jumpstart workshop and she has made such a difference for me already. She has a way of teaching that helps us understand and making us feel comfortable so we don’t feel ashamed of needing help.”
Terri’s impact on Sheila and other students like her can certainly be seen in Sheila’s grades. ”I received a 4.0 in my Math 053 class and I am currently holding a 4.0 in my Math 113 class as well. I think Terri has made a big impact at Schoolcraft for many students.”
Terri is not only a staff member at Schoolcraft College, but she herself is a graduate.
