Nursing instructor wins community service award

Associate Professor of Nursing Marlynn Marroso will receive a Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning award for 2006 from the Michigan Campus Compact. This is the highest annual award that MCC gives to faculty and staff in the state of Michigan. It recognizes the impact she has had on her students' education.

Marroso developed a partnership with the American Red Cross whereby all Schoolcraft nursing students volunteer with the Southeast Michigan Chapter. It is the only such program in the nation, and has students working at blood drives, getting training on disaster response, and going out into communities to train others.

Nursing students also have organized campus-wide blanket drives, participated as victims in major disaster drills, and collected thousands of items and assembled hygiene kits for the homeless.
