Josselyn Moore — Schoolcraft’s international maven
Assistant Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Josselyn Moore regularly takes on the world with her multifaceted involvement in things international. She serves as the co-coordinator of Schoolcraft’s Multicultural Fair each year, working with Laura Leshok, international coordinator in the Counseling Office. The annual event draws more than 2,000 visitors and features displays, entertainment and food.
Moore has been an integral part of the Focus Series, where the entire campus focuses on one area of the world for a year. For several years, she coordinated the speakers and films, and organized a cultural capstone event to celebrate the region.
She also is a driving force behind the global endorsement, a designation on a student’s degree earned by taking a certain number of courses with an international component. Moore also is spokesperson and faculty chair of the International Institute. She says it’s been a wonderful experience, working with people all across campus in joint efforts.
Moore has degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and Hunter College in New York and has studied at the University of Michigan. While working at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, she knew the pioneering anthropologist Margaret Mead.
