Student journalist gains valuable experience

A Schoolcraft student since 2005, Katie Rudolph of Westland has been laying the groundwork for a rewarding career in political journalism. She has served as news editor of the Schoolcraft Connection, the college’s award-winning newspaper, and takes over as Connection editor this fall.

“I feel privileged to be part of an award-winning newspaper,” she says. “I write three to four articles every issue and edit staff articles as well.” With just six credits to go, Katie will complete an associate degree in journalism in the months to come.

“I’m looking forward to taking more political science and writing classes next year,” says Katie. “Someday, I hope to write about politics.” Her dream is to transfer to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to complete a bachelor’s degree.

Looking back on her years at Schoolcraft, Katie said “I feel a sense of belonging here. My time here has made me a more outgoing person. I’m more of a people person now. It’s changed me in good ways.”
