Nursing intructors receive recognition

     Recently, several faculty members in the Nursing department have had the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise, and proudly represent Schoolcraft College, on a national scale.
     Joy A. Pollard RN, PhD, ACNP-BC, director of the nursing programs, participated in the 2008 American College of Cardiology Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. As part of a team of nurse practitioners and cardiologists from around the country, Pollard met with representatives and senators on Capitol Hill to discuss health care issues and lobby for adaption of a nationwide system for electronic medical records and incorporation of evidenced based practice to reduce health care costs by decreasing duplication of services.  
   Nancy Palmer RN, MSN, full-time faculty member, recently reviewed and edited a chapter on diabetes for Mosby publishing. Her expertise on diabetes and nutrition is in the most recent edition of  Williams’ 13th edition of Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy, a text widely used in nutrition and nursing education. In addition, Palmer spoke at the meeting of Zonta International, a global organization of executives and professionals working to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Her slide presentation focused on her work with women and children in Peru where she has travelled the last  three years to deliver health aid to needy families.
   Marlynn Marroso RN, MSN, full time faculty member, recently published an on-line article, The Old College Try, on Nurse.com. The article focused on the collaborative program developed between Schoolcraft College and the American Red Cross that allows nursing students to participate in disaster preparedness training and FEMA sponsored public education.  The article can be found at http://include.nurse.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081110/MW02/111100004
