Author Thomas Norman DeWolf to visit campus April 6

Thomas Norman DeWolf, author of Inheriting the Trade will visit the Schoolcraft College campus in Livonia on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. He will speak at 1:15 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center. DeWolf's visit is sponsored by Pageturners Book Discussion grou Copies of Inheriting the Trade are available at a significant discount in the college's bookstores.

In addition to DeWolf's visit on April 6, Pageturners will present the documentary Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North, produced and directed by DeWolf's cousin Katrina Browne on Tuesday, April 5. It will be shown at 6 p.m. in the Liberal Arts building in Room 200 on the college's main campus in Livonia.

In 2001, DeWolf discovered that he was the descendent of the most successful slave-trading dynasty in America. When his ancestor Senator James DeWolf died in 1837, he was reportedly the second-richest man in America. The documentary and the book chronicle the journey of DeWolfe, Browne and eight other family members as they retraced the steps of their ancestors.
