Massage therapy a rewarding career

Massage therapy is a growing field, branching out into specializations such as newborn and infant massage, massage for hospice or Alzheimer's patients, or in rehabilitation work. Many health care professionals combine massage training with a career in nursing or occupational therapy.

To become an entry level massage therapist, you need between 500 and 700 hours of training, with some employers requiring 900 to 1,200 hours. With more training, you can qualify to work with people who are in rehabilitation or who have a chronic disease.

Schoolcraft's program includes a one-year certificate and a two-year associate degree, which helps you prepare for national certification. In addition to the fundamentals of massage therapy and its applications, you study anatomy and physiology. With a degree in massage therapy, you might consider a bachelor's degree in a complimentary health or medical field.
