Avalon String Quartet to perform Nov. 9

On Nov. 9 the college will once again play host to area classical music lovers. The concert, featuring the Avalon String Quartet, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Presentation Room in VisTaTech. Regarded as “one of the most exciting young string quartets in America,” by the Washington Post, the quartet has established itself as one of the country’s leading chamber ensembles.

Founded in 1995, they have received international acclaim for the bold musicality and passionate intensity of their performances. They will be performing selections from Onslow, Dutilleux and Ravel.

The members of the quartet are all dedicated educators and are currently in residence at Northern Illinois University, following residencies at the Julliard School and Indiana University.

The evening series, co-sponsored by the Music Department and the Foundation, was established this year to foster connections between Schoolcraft and the region’s music lovers. “We have had a great deal of success with our noon concert series and the caliber of performers we have been able to bring to the area,” said Don Morelock, music professor. “The Presentation Room is a perfect venue for this type of intimate performance. With a very limited number of recital halls in the area outside of traveling to Detroit or Ann Arbor, the community advisory committee that suggested this evening series sees this as a perfect opportunity and venue for making these connections.”

Tickets for the Nov. 9 performance are $20. They can be purchased by phone at ext. 4403 or online at www.schoolcraft.edu/foundation/events.asp.
