Open Auditions for “Marat/Sade” Production

Auditions for the college’s winter production will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22 and Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Theatre. Auditions are open to everyone—students, faculty, staff and the general public. There are many speaking and non-speaking parts available.

“Total theatre” is the expression critics have used to describe this unique theatrical event. The audience will experience a “play within a play” as the inmates of the Asylum of Charenton perform plays staged by their fellow inmate, the Marquis de Sade. With “Marat/Sade,” playwright Peter Weiss has created one of the most powerful and exciting plays of the century.

Theatrical training or experience is not required. Director James Hartman does caution, however, that due to the content and nature of the play, it is not appropriate for a younger audience or performers. A copy of the script is available in the Bradner Library, located on Schoolcraft College’s Livonia Campus. For more information about the play or auditions, please contact the Theatre Department at 734-462-4400 ext. 5270.
