Homeland Security Program at Schoolcraft College 2009-10

Following the terrorist attacks on the U.S. on 9/11 the security industry has seen tremendous growth, both in the number of jobs to be filled and in the scope of the work security professionals perform. One of the fastest growing specialties in this field is homeland security.

Schoolcraft College offers an associate degree in homeland security that prepares you for transfer to a four-year university. In fact, Schoolcraft has articulation agreements with several four-year universities that make the transfer process for homeland security graduates very easy. The specialized training students receive in the Homeland Security Program also gives those already employed in security or public safety professions a considerable advantage in their careers.
In addition to courses that meet general education requirements for an associate degree, students in the Homeland Security Program will take a number of courses that are shared with the college’s Criminal Justice Program along with courses in Homeland Security, Understanding Terrorism, Organizational and Facility Security, Introduction to Emergency Management, and Introduction to Intelligence. The majority of these courses are offered online for even greater flexibility in scheduling. http://www.schoolcraft.edu/pdfs/guides/programs/Homeland_Security.pdf
Homeland security professionals are employed by federal, state and local governments; private firms who specialize in providing security services; and by large corporations, organizations and facilities that require their own security specialists. Homeland security professionals help secure U.S. borders, airports, seaports and waterways; research and develop the latest security technologies; respond to natural disasters or terrorist assaults; and analyze intelligence reports to prevent, detect, and deter threats to the homeland.
