Auditions for Schoolcraft College’s Theatre Department's winter production, "King Lear," will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12 and Wednesday, January 13 in the Liberal Arts Theatre located on the college’s main campus in Livonia. There are 35 roles that need to be filled for this grand production. Auditions are open to faculty, staff, students and the general public.
     The exploration of family relationships that is the hallmark of “King Lear,” which is considered by many to be one of Shakespeare’s greatest works, continues to be very relevant today.  In it, a father with three daughters gives all he has to two of his daughters, and they treat him badly afterward.  The third daughter, who received nothing from the father, treats him well.  As a subplot in “King Lear,” another father has two sons:  one good son and one bad son.  The bad son plays on the father while the good son is sincere and dutiful.  Theatre goers will find these parent/child relationships compelling as the character deal with love, friendship, loyalty, and treason. This edited version is easy to understand and the production will be a grand scale production with memorable scenes that will excite and entertain you.
     “King Lear,” will be performed as a Dinner Theatre production on the evenings of March 19- 20 and 26-27 and as a theatre performance on April 19-20.
