Marketing Department
Services
Editorial Services
There are two approaches to generating text for projects handled by the Marketing Department. Some projects are initiated by Marketing in order to carry out campaigns connected to college-wide marketing goals. The Marketing Department writes the text for these projects. Some projects are initiated by other offices throughout campus; for these projects Marketing will work with text provided by that office.
If you want to initiate a project with Marketing, you should plan on providing written text. You have the option of taking the time to polish the text, or you can choose to put the main points down in writing and allow the Marketing staff to develop the text. In either case, you will need to provide the text to Marketing in the body of an email or in a Microsoft Word document. The department does not accept hard copy text.
You will be given the opportunity to review the text and provide input. Final decisions regarding editorial content rest with the Marketing Department.
Graphic Design Services
Design projects fall into one of two categories: Projects initiated by Marketing to support college-wide marketing goals, and projects initiated by other offices throughout campus. With both categories of project, the Marketing Department handles all aspects of graphic design.
You will have a chance to discuss the project, either via phone or email, or in a meeting with the designer, and you will have opportunities to review layouts and provide input during the design process. Final decisions regarding design rest with the Marketing Department.
Media Services and Media Relations
The department strives to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the college and the news media. It does this by issuing informative media releases to media outlets and by coordinating the college’s response to inquiries from news media professionals.
Media releases are issued directly via email to media outlets and also posted to the college’s Web site at www.schoolcraft.edu/press
The college’s response to media inquiries is coordinated by the Marketing Department. If you are contacted by a reporter seeking comment on a story, or if you have questions about how to work with the news media, contact the Communications Coordinator at extension 5010 or mgaynier@schoolcraft.edu.
Project Budgeting and Coordination
The Marketing Department can help you with your project by:
- Estimating the cost of your project, based on our past experience.
- Working with vendors and the Purchasing Department to secure competitive bids.
- Setting, tracking, and adjusting production deadlines as needed.
- Delivering final products to vendors and media outlets.
- Coordinating distribution to campus, mailing vendors, the Post Office, etc.
Staff News e-newsletter
The Marketing Department publishes a periodic e-newsletter, Staff News, as well as occasional bulletins and special editions intended to keep employees informed of important college news and events.
If you have suggestions for items to be included in Staff News, send it via email to mktg@schoolcraft.edu or leave a voicemail message at extension 4479.
Photography Procedure
Most photography assignments fall into one of four categories. Who takes the photographs and who pays for photographic services varies by category of assignment. Contact the Marketing Associate at 734-462-4417 for more information about photography assignments.
