Overtime shootout downs top-ranked Ocelots

The Schoolcraft College men’s soccer team, ranked #1 in the nation, witnessed a dramatic end to their 22-0 run when they lost to the College of Southern Maryland Hawks 1-0 in a triple-overtime shootout. The Hawks managed to outscore the Ocelots 5-4 on penalty kicks after 90 minutes of scoreless action and two additional 10-minute overtime periods.

The loss came in the title game of the National Junior College Athletic Association District 12 tournament. Southern Maryland advances to play in the NCJAA Div. I National Championship tournament to be held Nov. 17-20 in Phoenix, AZ.

For SC Coach Rick Larson and the men’s soccer team, the loss marks the end of an impressive season in which they won 22 straight; won the Michigan Community College Athletic Association tournament and claimed an NJCAA regional title.
