Schoolcraft College Board appoints Elkins, Adams to open seats

LIVONIA – The Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees acted November 5, 2011, to fill one current and one anticipated vacancy on the college’s governing board.
John R. Elkins has been appointed to fill the seat left open by Mary Breen’s decision to retire from the board after serving for more than 28 years. Elkins will be sworn in at the board’s November 16 meeting.
The board appointed Douglas H. Adams, Ph. D., to fill the seat currently held by board chair Gregory J. Stempien, who plans to step down from the board at the end of this year. Adams will be sworn in at the board’s January 25, 2012, meeting.
Board seats have six-year terms. The seats being filled by Elkins and Adams have terms that end on December 31, 2012. Both men have stated that they intend to run for full terms in the November 2012 general election; those terms begin January 1, 2013.
Elkins, a Livonia resident, is the President of JR Elkins & Associates, Inc. and currently serves as Community Liaison for Senior Services with St. Mary Mercy Hospital.
Adams, a resident of Canton, is Vice President, Small Business Administration Lending for Comerica Bank.
The seven-member Board of Trustees serves as the college’s policy-making body. To be considered a candidate for the position, an applicant must be a registered voter and a resident of the Schoolcraft College district, which includes the Clarenceville, Garden City, Livonia, Northville, and Plymouth-Canton school districts and part of the Novi school district.
