Douglas H. Adams, Ph.D., sworn in to Board of Trustees for Schoolcraft College
LIVONIA – At its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, the Board of Trustees of Schoolcraft College welcomed Douglas H. Adams, Ph.D., as its newest member. Adams was sworn in as a trustee by Wayne County Deputy Clerk, Caven West, longtime friend and associate of Dr. Adams.
Dr. Adams was appointed to the Board of Trustees in November 2011 to complete the final year of a six-year term, ending December 31, 2012, of board member Gregory J. Stempien who recently retired from the board.
Dr. Adams served on the Schoolcraft College Foundation Board of Governors since 2010 and as a member of the Foundation’s Investment Oversight Committee since July 2011. He is currently Vice President, Small Business Administration Lending for Comerica Bank. He is a former community college student, having attended Jackson Community College for general studies prior to earning a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan; earning a Master’s of Public Administration degree from the University of Toledo; attending Beijing University (Beijing, China) as a visiting scholar; and completing his doctorate at the University of Louisville's (KY) College of Business and Public Administration.
In addition to his employment at Comerica Bank, Dr. Adams was a project manager for Michigan Economic Development Corporation, International and National Business Development; assistant to the Dean and a research assistant in the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Louisville; and an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at Indiana University-Southeast. He is a resident of Canton.
Board seats have six-year terms. The seats being filled by Elkins and Adams have terms that end on December 31, 2012. Both men have stated that they intend to run for full terms in the November 2012 general election; those terms begin January 1, 2013.
The seven-member Board of Trustees serves as the college’s policy-making body. To be considered a candidate for the position, an applicant must be a registered voter and a resident of the Schoolcraft College district, which includes the Clarenceville, Garden City, Livonia, Northville, and Plymouth-Canton school districts and part of the Novi school district.
