Public comments sought as part of accreditation process

Published: 7/23/2012

Schoolcraft College and its accrediting agency are seeking comments from the public about the college in preparation for the college's periodic evaluation by the agency. Public comments are due August 12. A team representing the agency will visit campus September 12-14. Comments can be submitted electronically or in writing (see mailing address below).

The Higher Learning Commission is one of six regional accrediting agencies in the United States that provides institutional accreditation. This process evaluates the entire institution and accredits the college as a whole. The Commission, which accredits approximately 1,100 colleges and universities in a 19-state region, is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Schoolcraft has been accredited by the Commission since 1968.

Schoolcraft has been engaged in a process of self-study and addressing the Commission's requirements and criteria for accreditation. The evaluation team will visit Schoolcraft September 12-14, 2012 to gather evidence that the self-study is thorough and accurate. The team will recommend to the Commission a continuing status for the college; following a review process, the Commission itself will take the final action.

The public is invited to submit comments regarding the college. The Commission seeks comments that address substantive matters related to the quality of the college or its academic programs. All comments must be signed.

Comments should be received by the Commission by Sunday, August 12, 2012.
