How to get information about Schoolcraft College closings during inclement weather
Published: 1/2/2013
When inclement weather is expected, the administration will make every effort to make decisions regarding college closings as early as possible. For day class cancellations, notice will be placed in a yellow box on the homepage of the college's website, www.schoolcraft.edu, by 6 a.m. For potential evening class cancellations, notice will be placed by 4 p.m. on the website. Periodic updates regarding the college’s open or closed status will be made to the website whenever possible.
Weather conditions can vary widely, even over a small geographic area. Students must exercise their own judgment concerning their own safety, whether the college is open or closed. In the event a student chooses not to attend class due to weather conditions and the college is open, he or she must contact their instructor(s) for assignments or other information that was missed.
In addition to the website, the following radio and television stations will be officially contacted and asked to announce closure information and post information on their respective websites: WWJ-950 AM, WJR-760 AM, WJBK-TV 2, WDIV-TV 4, WXYZ-TV 7, WWJ-TV 62, and WKBD-TV 50.
Emergency alerts are also available via text, email and voicemail through Rave Mobile Safety, a provider of emergency notification software. Sign up for SCalerts (if you have already signed up for Rave you do not need to sign up again) and the Rave system will deliver messages alerting you to weather-related college closings and other emergencies affecting Schoolcraft and the surrounding area.
