Published: 2/22/2008
The Women’s Resource Center’s annual Spaghetti Dinner and Wine Glow is Tuesday, March 18, in the DiPonio Room of the VisTaTech Center. The evening will begin with a Wine Glow at 6 p.m., the Spaghetti Dinner at 7 p.m. and conclude with a special presentation program.
The WRC Advisory Board, sponsors of the Spaghetti Dinner, expect this year’s fundraiser will once again be a sellout. Tickets, sponsorships and advertising space in the program are currently available. Tickets are available for $30 each, sponsorships for $75 include two dinner tickets and listing in the program, and advertisements are available in varying sizes for $20 - $100. For more information call 734-462-4400 ext. 4443.
The evening’s festivities will include an encore of last year’s first-ever Basket Raffle. In its first year, the WRC peer counselors created themed baskets, which helped to raise an additional $1,500 for scholarships. This year’s raffle will include a new and exciting array of baskets including the State of Michigan Basket, a Gardener’s Basket and a Mystery Basket. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event only.
Peer counselors from the WRC are available during the week to assist individuals who wish to enter or re-enter college, research new career possibilities, find referrals for services or information or talk through a difficult situation. The resources and programs of the WRC are made available to current and future students as well as members of the local community.
The Special Populations Program provides tuition assistance, support services and programs for single parents, displaced homemakers, the academically and economically disadvantaged, individuals with a disability, those with limited English proficiency and non-traditional job seekers. The WRC’s nationally recognized CHIPS Program (From Chocolate Chips to Micro Chips to Blue Chips) is a one-stop program that assists women in transition by providing assertiveness training, career exploration, job-skills identification, interviewing and job-hunting techniques, job placement guidance and assistance in seeking financial aid along with keyboarding and computer orientation classes. A Divorce Support Group meets twice a month and there are monthly visits from a certified financial planner and an attorney.
The WRC works vigorously to ensure scholarship opportunities, especially for women who are returning to school, to provide as many opportunities as possible for those looking to improve themselves personally and professionally.
