"Our Great Lakes" is focus of Earth Day activities April 19-22

This year’s 10th anniversary celebration of Earth Day on the Schoolcraft College campus will actually span several days and will focus on “Our Great Lakes.” While this is the college’s tenth year of celebration, the Earth Day movement is celebrating 40 years of activities. Below is a sampling of the planned activities throughout the week. As more activities are confirmed, this page of information will be updated.
- April 19-Biology 101 students will work with the Childrens’ Center’s kindergarten class as "Earth Buddies" in a special project.
- April 20-Keynote speaker, Dr. Jim Diana, Director of the Michigan Sea Grant College Program, at the University of Michigan will speak at 10 a.m. in the VisTaTech Center
- April 20-The Building Bridges committee will host a screening of "The Water Front" followed by a discussion in Liberal Arts Room 200 at noon.
- Screening of the “Journey to Planet Earth” series of videos, narrated by Matt Damon, in the Biomedical Technology Center Room 235 from noon – 5 p.m.
- April 21-The Oscar-winning film, The Cove, will be show in VT 550 at 6 p.m.
- April 22-A day full of activities, displays and activities in and around the VisTaTech Center from 9 a.m - 4 p.m.
- April 22-Michigan Forestry Trailer display and Electric Car Display and demonstration in the North Parking Lot from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- April 22-Earth Day 40th Anniversary Celebration Program from 10 a.m. - noon, followed by refreshments.
- April 22-Poster presentation and scholarship awards at noon.
- Student PowerPoint presentations on the topic of “Our Great Lakes” from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
All of these activities are free and open to the public and will be held on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
