Summer Piano Camp sessions for school-age children July 12-August 6

Schoolcraft College’s Summer Piano Camp will offer two, two week-sessions this summer, each focusing on a different area of specialty, for local school-age pianists. Tuition is $310 for each session and students new to the Schoolcraft College Summer Piano Camp will need to audition in advance. For more information or to schedule an audition, call 734-462-4403.

Piano Concertos and Chamber Music – July 12 – 22
The Piano Concertos and Chamber Music session will run July 12-22 from, Monday through Friday. This session provides school-age pianists with the rare opportunity to rehearse and perform with a professional string ensemble. Students who plan to attend the Piano Concertos and Chamber Music camp must have one movement of a concerto already memorized and be ready to rehearse with a string ensemble.
During the first week of the session and on Monday, July 19, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., participants will benefit from individual coaching sessions and instruction in music theory and history, skills and technique development, and the opportunity to rehearse with an orchestra.
The second week of the session will include dress rehearsals at 4 p.m. and evening performances at 7 p.m. the evenings of July 20-22.

Solo Piano and Piano Duets – July 26 – August 6
 The Solo Piano and Piano Duets session will run July 26-August 6, Monday through Friday. Sessions for students at the elementary grade level will be in session form 9 a.m. – noon each day. Those students who perform at the intermediate or advanced level will be in session from 1 – 4 p.m. each day.
 Students will learn in small groups. Composition, theory, rhythm, and music history will be covered. Through various games and activities, and by performing in duets, sightreading and keyboard skills will be emphasized and students will learn tips for improving their technique.  The two-week session will culminate in an evening recital on August 6.
