Schoolcraft College presents several free concerts in December

Wednesday, December 1 - Kevin Bylsma, piano, and Christopher Scholl, tenor, perform
Christopher Scholl, tenor, and Kevin Bylsma, piano, will perform a free concert on Wednesday, December 1 at noon in the Presentation Room of the VisTaTech Center as a part of the college's Noon Concert Series. The concert will feature classical to contemporary selections performed by Scholl and Bylsma  including works by Leoncavallo, Ernesto de Curtis, Reynaldo Hahn, Jules Massenet, Richard Strauss, Mark Hayes, and William Bolcom.


Friday, December 3 - Wind Ensemble and Artists’ Ensemble perform
Schoolcraft College’s Wind Ensemble and members of the Artists’ Ensemble, a professional singing ensemble from the former Tyndale College, will perform seasonal selections at 7:30 p.m.on Friday, December 3 in the VisTaTech Center. In addition to traditional music from noted composers including Karl L. King, Gustav Holst and Percy A. Grainger, the ensembles will perform other favorites such as Clarinet Candy, Sleigh Ride, and A Christmas Festival. The evening will also feature an audience sing-a-long. Admission is free and donations for the college’s Music Department will be accepted at the door.


Sunday, December 5 – Wind Ensemble and Choral Union perform
Schoolcraft College’s Wind Ensemble and Choral Union will perform seasonal selections at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 5 at the Radcliff Center in Garden City. Wind Ensemble selections will include traditional music from noted composers Karl L. King, Gustav Holst and Percy A. Grainger and a variety of holiday selections including Clarinet Candy, Sleigh Ride and A Christmas Festival.  Choral Union selections will include Jonah by Rollo Ditworth, a unique arrangement of Lo How a Rose, and The Rose, arranged by Craig Hella Johnson. The highlight of the evening will be an audience sing-a-long.  Admission is free and donations for the college’s Music Department will be accepted at the door.


Wednesday, December 8 – Applied Music Student Recital
Students from Schoolcraft College’s Applied Music program will perform voice and instrumental selections during this free recital at noon on Wednesday, December 8. The recital will be held in the Forum Building on the college’s main campus in Livonia in Room 530. The public is welcome to attend.


Friday, December 10 – Bach Festival performances
At 7 p.m. on Friday, December 10 winners of this year’s Bach Honors Competition will perform a free concert in the VisTaTech Center. Nearly 100 area piano students age 8 -18 were nominated by their piano teachers to compete and the students with the highest scores will perform. All selections performed will be compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach.


Monday, December 13 – Jazz Ensemble, Synthesizer Ensemble and Jazz Combo perform
Members of Schoolcraft College’s Jazz Ensemble, Synthesizer Ensemble and Jazz Combo groups will perform a free concert Monday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center. The groups will be performing a mix of classic and contemporary jazz ensemble works, holiday jazz arrangements, and compositions and arrangements of Schoolcraft College music program students. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations for the college’s Music Department will be accepted at the door.
